5 Tips for Better Skin in 2020

Another year is quickly coming to an end which means it's time to start working on becoming a new, better you for 2020. All 2019, you may have been more focused on losing weight or eating healthier foods but what about your skin?

Your skin is your largest organ and one of the first things people notice when they see you. That’s why improving your skin should be moved up on your self care priority list. If you're on the quest for glowing skin in 2020, the following are 5 tips for better skin that you can get started with right now.

Exfoliate

Want polished, glowing skin? Well, exfoliation is key. Exfoliating your skin buffs away dead skin and triggers the generation of new, healthy skin cells. This year, try your best to develop the habit of exfoliating your skin at least 1-2 per week. People with oily skin should exfoliate more (2-3 times per week) to prevent breakouts caused by oil buildup.

Use Sunscreen

Sun exposure is one of the leading causes of skin damage and premature aging. If your goal for 2018 is to have better skin, then you need to incorporate sunscreen into your skincare routine. Sunscreen should be applied at least 20 minutes before you’re exposed to the sun. And yes, you need to wear sunscreen in the winter and on cloudy, overcast days.

Moisturize

Moisturizer is an important but, often overlooked element of skincare. Even if you have the oiliest of skin, you need to moisturize twice daily. In the mornings, opt for a lightweight moisturizer with SPF 15. At nights, use a heavier moisturizer or night cream to prevent dryness and wrinkles.

Be Gentle

Skin is a very delicate organ that should be handled with care. For the best skin, avoid using products that contain harsh ingredients. These types of products do more harm than good for your skin. Also, use care when cleansing and exfoliating your skin. Harsh scrubbing is damaging to the skin and can cause more breakouts.

Stay Consistent

As with any routine, success equals consistency. Whether it’s losing weight or eating better, being consistent is the best way to get results. Determine your skin type and then research and experiment with products that contain ingredients that work best for your type of skin. Develop a skincare routine that includes a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer and stick with it. Be sure to exfoliate a few times per week and use serums and night creams to treat areas prone to damage.
